Treka Bus has successfully delivered sixteen Treka Mobility vehicles to South Lanarkshire Council, supporting the council’s continued investment in safe, accessible and reliable passenger transport across the region.
Built on the trusted Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform, the vehicles have been carefully specified to support the council’s education transport services while also providing the flexibility to serve a wider range of passenger needs.
Each vehicle offers seating for up to 16 passengers, with an adaptable interior layout designed to provide maximum operational flexibility. Detachable seating allows the saloon to be quickly reconfigured to accommodate up to six wheelchair users when required, enabling the vehicles to support a variety of transport roles without compromising passenger capacity.
To ensure safe and straightforward access for all passengers, the vehicles are equipped with a PLS tail lift, allowing wheelchair users to board and exit the vehicle smoothly and efficiently. Once onboard, the Stop Safe docking system securely positions wheelchairs during travel, providing added reassurance for passengers, drivers and operators.
The vehicles will primarily support South Lanarkshire Council’s school transport network, helping the authority deliver reliable daily transport for pupils across the region.
South Lanarkshire Council selected Treka Bus following a competitive procurement process, citing vehicle quality, value for money and a strong existing relationship as key factors in the decision.
Steven Hardman, Fleet Manager at South Lanarkshire Council, said:
“South Lanarkshire Council is pleased to confirm the successful delivery of sixteen new Mercedes Sprinter-based vehicles supplied by Treka Bus. These vehicles will play a key role in supporting our scheduled operations, with primary deployment across our school transport network.
Early feedback has been very positive. The build quality, accessibility features and overall comfort of the vehicles have aligned well with the requirements of our school transport service.
In addition, we are actively engaging with our Social Work department to undertake a structured trial of these vehicles within care-related and community transport settings. Should the trial continue to prove successful, we anticipate further opportunities to expand the use of Treka vehicles across a wider range of council services.
We appreciate the support and responsiveness provided by Treka Bus throughout the procurement and delivery process and look forward to continuing our partnership as our fleet strategy develops.”
This delivery further strengthens Treka Bus’s presence within the accessible transport sector, with vehicles designed to support local authorities, community transport operators and specialist passenger services across the UK.
