Driving license requirements

Driving licence requirements are an important consideration when choosing a school minibus.

Some vehicles may be suitable for drivers with a standard car licence, while others may require D1 entitlement. The answer depends on a combination of factors, including vehicle weight, number of seats, if the bus is electric, if it’s fitted with accessibility features, when the driver passed their test, whether the driver is a volunteer and more besides! We always suggest schools check the latest guidance on GOV.UK.

The good news is that at Treka, we offer a wide choice of school minibus options, including accessible and non-accessible models, helping schools, academies and MATs find a vehicle that suits their passengers and available drivers.

Minibuses for Schools

Minibus Features

Flexible, configurable layouts

The interior flooring allows for the seating layouts of our vehicles to be adjusted dynamically.

This means that different class sizes with more or fewer wheelchairs can be accommodated between trips.

Highly durable, low maintenance interiors

Our Minibus ranges feature durable flooring, wipe-clean surfaces, and robust seating to stand up to the daily wear and tear faced by school transport.

Interiors are precision moulded with a combination of GRP and ABS panels.

Extensive lift and equipment options

We offer a wide range of lift solutions and accessibility equipment to meet your students’ needs.

All are fitted in-house to ensure seamless integration and enduring reliability.

Safety and comfort for drivers and passengers

Our school minibuses can be fitted out with a wealth of features including reversing cameras, and parking sensors.

They feature clear mirrors, good lighting and audible warning systems to make maneuvering around school sites, car parks and narrow roads safer and more manageable.

Drivers enjoy good all-round visibility, supportive seating and straightforward controls.

Driving license appropriate

Driving licence entitlement is one of the biggest considerations for school minibuses in the UK. Many of Everyday school minibuses can be driven on a standard licence, due to weighing less than 3.5 tonnes and seating up to 16 passengers.

This makes it accessible to a wide pool of qualified drivers holding standard drivers licences, without needing a specialist Minibus licence.
