North Yorkshire Council has taken delivery of 25 new Treka Mobility vehicles, reinforcing a partnership built on reliability and trust that spans over a decade.

The substantial order will support essential accessible transport services across the region, including home-to-school transport, adult social care, and occasional bus services. Each vehicle offers flexible passenger capacity, accommodating either 16 seated passengers or 6 wheelchair users to meet diverse community needs.

The council operates a fleet of 119 vehicles, 105 of which are accessible. Kate Stapleton, Transport Development Officer at North Yorkshire Council, points to three key factors behind the ongoing partnership: “Good customer experience and service from start to finish. Long-standing relationship. Develop trust in the product.”

These fundamentals of consistent service delivery, sustained partnership, and proven reliability formed the foundation of the council’s decision following a competitive tender process. The choice to return to Treka validates the 12-year performance record of the council’s existing fleet. In accessible transport, where vehicles work hard every day and reliability is essential, this kind of longevity delivers real value.

The new Treka Mobility vehicles come fully equipped to meet the demanding requirements of accessible transport operations:

  • Detachable seating systems for configuration flexibility
  • Underfloor tail lifts equipped with door safe and stop safe mechanisms
  • Electric boarding steps
  • Water-based climate control systems
  • Rear parking sensors and digital destination displays
  • Integrated CCTV systems

Vehicle sizing also proved significant in the selection process, ensuring compatibility with existing routes whilst maximising accessibility and capacity for the diverse demands of North Yorkshire’s accessible transport network.

This latest delivery, attended by David Dumbleton, Kate Stapleton, and Julie Wallace, represents another step forward in a partnership built on consistent performance and a shared understanding of what accessible transport operators need.
